The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), the largest pharmaceutical producer and distributor in Thailand has completed a full scope Manufacturing Execution System (MES) implementation to enable a paperless production at their Rangsit manufacturing site.
The Electronic Batch Record (EBR) solution provided by the MES is a first in the Thai pharmaceutical industry and as such is a leading reference across the ASEAN region. The project was entirely executed by Factorytalk Co., Ltd together
with their software partner Werum IT Solutions AG using only Thai resources highly experienced from supporting global MES projects.
The complex project involved a tight co-ordination of specialist engineers, business process and industry consultants and project management. The PAS-X solution has been implemented across the whole facility from the Goods Receipt of raw materials, Warehousing, Weighing, Production, Quality until Shipment of Finished Products to the GPO nationwide supply chains. The solution is interfaced to GPO’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) systems to ensure efficient and compliant data transfer within the facility and is supported by an Electronic Quality Management System under the concept of a fully integrated and electronic production site.
The complete IT design and test and validation services were provided as a turnkey project to ensure the facility meets international GMP standards (PIC/s). The system has completed its hand over process and will start formal operation in June 2015 and will result in large benefits in the quality and efficiency of this critical manufacturing site for the production of important medicines for Thailand.
“MES has enabled us to reduce paper records from the plant floor and replace them with an electronic and sequenced way of gathering the right data for the right product from the right authority at the right time. The review-by-exception functionality has also enabled departments within the manufacturing organization to start reviewing the events in real-time which saves time and reduces lead time for product release as the review can be completed in parallel with production.” said Dr. Mukdavan Prakobvaitayakit, QA Director – GPO
Teerapong Cheepchol, MES program manager and DMD, Factorytalk Co., Ltd who guided the project from its inception to completion provided the following statement. “We truly appreciate the chance and commitments GPO have made with us to undertake a ground breaking project for the nation and are very proud to have introduced a truly modern set of solutions and expert services to make GPO’s vision a reality. We work every day to add value into our customer’s business and focus on providing the best tools for our clients to produce higher quality products that enable international standards rapidly. It is fantastic to be able to bring this expertise to our country and create a lighthouse project that will bring positive change to the pharma industry here in Thailand”
